About

UBC is a place of engagement; a place where relevant, innovative and impactful research is conducted; a place where pressing societal issues are examined, deliberated and resolved; and a place where critical thinking is always welcomed, and informed citizens shaped. As we begin UBC’s next century, we continue to strive to fulfil this potential in all that we do, locally, regionally, nationally and across the world.

As former UBC President Santa J. Ono noted, this strategic plan was “launched at a time of renewal as we embarked on our next century as a leading public university.”

The plan’s development involved comprehensive consultation with the community at the outset in 2016. In its foundations, Shaping UBC’s Next Century draws upon our collective vision, purpose, values, goals and strategies for the years ahead. It guides our decisions and actions — inspiring the very best in our students, faculty, staff, alumni and partners. It provides a roadmap to help UBC reach its potential and a mechanism through which we can be held accountable. It supports faculties, units and portfolios across the university in the development of their own institutional plans.
