Strategic Plan Funding Calls

As UBC strives to bring life to the Strategic Plan across the university, we have compiled a central hub of UBC’s internal funding calls to assist the community in supporting collaboration and innovation. Funds are arranged by supporting Core Area, as below.

Anti-Racism Initiative Fund:  The fund supports initiatives that seek to celebrate and elevate diverse communities and advance anti-racism efforts at our UBC Vancouver and Okanagan campuses.

Campus as a Living Laboratory Fund Competition (CLL):  The CLL Fund provides seed funding to support innovation projects on the Vancouver campus that address strategic priorities and embody the principles of a living lab.

Equity Enhancement Fund (EEF): Supports community-based initiatives that enhance equity, diversity, and inclusion – one of the core themes of UBC’s strategic plan.

Inclusive Initiative Fund (IIF): UBC’s Inclusive Initiatives Fund (IIF) provides low-barrier access to funds for students working to build a more inclusive UBC.

Equity and Inclusion Scholars Program (E&I): Enhances the university’s strategic commitment to increasing equitable and inclusive teaching practices that support and enhance the experiences of all learners.

Principal’s Research Chairs Program (PRC): The Principal’s Research Chairs (PRC) program is designed to provide research support for UBC Okanagan faculty engaged in outstanding research or creative scholarship.

Wellbeing Scholars Program: Funding support for up to five wellbeing projects that support the health, wellbeing and social sustainability priorities at UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan.

Wellbeing Strategic Initiatives Fund: Supports UBC’s commitment to being a health- and wellbeing-promoting institution, as outlined in the Wellbeing Strategic Framework.

Workplace Sustainability Fund: Funds are available annually to generate sustainable solutions in the workplace and is an award incentive for UBC’s Sustainability Coordinator Program.

Collaborative Research Mobility Awards (CRMA): To facilitate collaboration on timely research opportunities between UBC researchers in Vancouver and the Okanagan.

Critical Research Equipment & Tools Program (CRET): Supports the acquisition, development, repairs, replacement or creation of critical research infrastructure at UBC Okanagan.

Eminence Program: Supports the development of clusters of research excellence at UBC Okanagan that leverage existing strengths and are aligned with the strategic plans of the units, faculties, campus and university.

Grants for Catalyzing Research Clusters (GCRC)Applications are being invited from both emerging and established research excellence clusters in all disciplines on the Vancouver campus.

Health After 2020: The Health After 2020 program offers funding of up to $10,000 to UBC faculty members who are interested in starting or extending a collaborative relationship with a scholar or collaborator from outside UBC

Health Innovation Funding Investment Awards: to catalyze these collaborations by supporting cross-Faculty and cross-campus research at UBC’s Vancouver and Okanagan campuses. Awards of $10,000 to $25,000 will be granted to faculty members who are collaborating across Faculties, disciplines, and campuses to develop new teams, pursue new ideas, or translate findings from innovative health-related research.

Open Access Fund for Humanities and Social Sciences Research (OA): Supports open access charges to make research (journal articles, books, book chapters) openly accessible in Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)-aligned fields.

Program for Undergraduate Research Experience (PURE): Broadening access to, and enhancing, undergraduate research experiences.

Research Facility Support Grants (RFSG): To provide funding for the operation, maintenance, repairs or upgrades of equipment used in UBC facilities to support research.

Scholarly Publication Fund (SPF): Assists with the costs of book or journal publishing in Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)-aligned fields.

Shared Research Facility Development Program: a two-stage process that will evaluate proposals for new shared research facilities on UBC’s Okanagan campus, including the new Interdisciplinary Collaboration and Innovation (ICI) building.

Advancing Education Renewal (AER): To facilitate sustained program renewal, improve teaching effectiveness, and reimagine and strengthen the graduate program.

Aspire-2040 Learning Transformations Fund (ALT-2040): Accelerate curricular transformations envisioned in Outlook 2040. This fund supports projects that focus on developing and implementing strategic curricular innovations that have program-level impact.

Climate Education Grants: Provides up to $5,000 to UBC Vancouver and Okanagan faculty members to incorporate climate change content and teaching approaches into existing undergraduate and graduate courses.

CTLT Spring Institute:  CTLT invites proposals that demonstrate purposeful innovation in teaching practices, educational research, student services, and learning technology to support student success and experiences.

Global Fund: Provides grants for student-led initiatives concerned with issues of global citizenship, like social justice, international development, anti-racism, sustainability and intercultural understanding.

Continuous Learning Advancement Fund (CLAF): Supports the creation, renewal and expansion of non-degree learning opportunities at UBC Vancouver

Open Educational Resources Fund (OER) Implementation Grant: Supports affordable and inclusive access to learning materials; provides funding and staff support to UBC faculty who wish to incorporate open educational resources as the required materials into their UBCV undergraduate credit courses.

Open Educational Resources Fund (OER) Rapid Innovation Grant: Provides funding to UBC Vancouver students, faculty and staff for a wide range of innovative activities and events that increase OER development, awareness, and capacity building.

So TL Seed Program (SoTL): Provides graduate research assistants, collegial collaborations, and complementary funding for projects, for faculty interested in exploring and understanding the impact of their pedagogical choices.

So TL Dissemination Fund (SoTL): The fund supports dissemination of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), in publications that describe research on teaching and learning in higher education with direct implications for UBC. Funds may be used toward publishing fees or conference registration and travel costs.

Sustainability Scholars Program: To provide a unique educational experience for UBC graduate level students through funded sustainability-related applied research projects.

Students as Partners (SaP) in Course Design grants: Funded through the Student Support Initiative, Students as Partners in Course Design grants are available to further student-faculty partnerships in course redesign. These grants support UBC Vancouver undergraduate students working in partnerships with faculty to redesign UBCV undergraduate courses. Up to 40 projects will be funded between 2022-2024.

Large TLEF Transformation Projects (TLEF Large): Large TLEF Transformation projects are multi-year projects that are intended to advance UBC’s strategic goals relating to transformative learning. Large TLEF projects typically aspire to impact multiple courses or programs.

Small TLEF Innovation projects (TLEF Small): These projects are grassroots projects that are intended to support experimentation with pedagogical approaches that have strong potential to enhance the experiences of learners. They are typically smaller in scope and scale than large TLEF.

Undergraduate Program Evaluation and Renewal (UPER): Supports departments in reframing undergraduate academic program design in terms of learning outcomes and competencies.

Walter H. Gage Memorial Fund: Provides financial support for non-curricular student projects and activities that enhance the University’s reputation and have broad interest to students at UBC.

Advancing Community Engaged Learning Fund: The grants are intended for the development, innovation, evaluation, and improvement of approaches, resources and systems that enable community engaged learning to grow and sustain as a practice at UBC.

Chapman and Innovation Grants (C&I): Designed to help students work with a community partner to test a new idea and take initiative in tackling issues affecting under-represented populations in their local communities.

Community-University Engagement Support Fund (CUES): CUES us a competitive funding program that provides successful recipients at charitable organizations in BC to build partnerships and pursue shared projects with UBC. This funding supports the partners behind collaborative research, teaching, and learning projects that benefit communities across the province.

Connect to Community Grant (C2C): Offers UBC students the opportunity to create and implement a meaningful project in partnership with a local not-for-profit community organization.

Partnership Recognition Fund (PRF): This fund is designed to help fill small resource gaps and acknowledge the work of community groups that partner with UBC. Applications for projects that advance equity and justice through reciprocal community engagement are encouraged.
