Funding available to foster collaborations in research excellence

Research Excellence | Strategy 7: Research Support
Theme: Collaboration

UBC is supporting our research community to establish new or expand upon existing research collaborations through the Collaborative Research Mobility Awards (CRMA) program. This renewed and expanded program is currently seeking applications to support partnerships between our campuses, or with researchers at the University of Washington or UCLA.

The CRMA began as a means to facilitate collaboration on timely research opportunities between researchers in Vancouver and the Okanagan, helping them share knowledge, interests and access to equipment. These competitions are now running quarterly and have enabled past collaborations between researchers in a wide variety of disciplines and topics: from blockchain to mental health, workplace relations, and others.

The partnership with the University of Washington continues to strengthen the research and innovation relationships in the Cascadia Corridor. The UBC & UW CRMA helps build and strengthen partnerships in the region while supporting cross-border knowledge exchange. The program began as a very successful pilot last year, demonstrating that UBC researchers are committed to excellence and eager to collaborate.

The newest CRMA partnership takes UBC researchers a little further afield to foster and strengthen relationships with another Pacific Rim institution — UCLA. The first round of funding for the UBC & UCLA CRMA is open to researchers in all disciplines, with priority given to the social sciences, humanities, and the creative and performing arts. It’s an excellent start to what could be the beginning of new research relationships for years to come.

The CRMA program is administered by the Office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation and supported by the President; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Principal, UBC Okanagan; and the Provosts and Vice-Presidents, Academic, UBC Okanagan and UBC Vancouver.

Deadlines for these awards will occur throughout the year.
