The Office of the Provost and Vice-President, Academic, UBC Vancouver is pleased to announce the Online Learning Advancement Fund (OLAF) recipients for 2019-21. Launched earlier this year as part of UBC’s commitment to transformative learning, the OLAF is aimed at supporting the development of cohort-based online learning opportunities – either online or non-credit.

In total, 11 OLAF projects from six faculties will receive a total of $1,366,202 in funding over the next two years. Projects range from the development of certificates in Canadian Health and Healthcare for Working Professionals, Writing for Video Games and Mining Law and Sustainability, to professional development for international English language teachers. All funded projects align with Strategy 11: Education Renewal and Strategy 13: Practical Learning in UBC’s strategic plan.

The adjudication committee received 32 applications, which far exceeded its expectations for the inaugural OLAF funding call. This is a strong demonstration of the faculties’ commitment to expanding online learning opportunities to new and existing credit and non-credit student audiences.

A showcase of the successful OLAF projects will be presented during Celebrate Learning Week in 2020.
