While there is a competitive advantage, there is also a danger of UBC being seen as the Canadian university that has ties to Asia to the exclusion of having strong connections elsewhere.

Please include countries other than China into your Asia ambit. Brilliant brains exist in countries like India which is narrowly represented in UBC.

Yes, if we are talking about U of T. No if we are talking about UVic. It is closer than U of T., but not closer if we are talking about UVic.
